I think she means the community that we are in. Church, school, state, city take a pick.

Well... I want to know what the word community means to you, how you understand it. So I don't have parameters, really. The church is supposed to be a community. What do you think people need to do or be in order for real community to exist?

I feel that community is made by people who care, and it doesn't matter to me whether, they are right next door, or on the other side of the world the people who care about you and your friends make up your community.

That is what I have been thinking, community is made up of people who care. You would think that your church would be a community and it should be but that is not always the case. I think we expect it to be, we expect people to care and when they turn on you it is a great disappointment. That is why I think location has nothing to do with it. You can work in the same building with someone for years and not be in community with them, you can worship in the same building with someone and not know them at all. Community is made up of people who are more concerned with others than they are with themselves, they are looking out for the greater good beyond their own needs and desires. In this way all needs are met. I feel at times that we give and give and people call only when they need something and when we need something, like them to be a friend they are no where to be found. That is not community. It requires a conscious effort to be unselfish, much like the book of Acts. I feel a part of a community that has expanded from here to England, Ireland and Wales. These people are not in our vicinity but certainly people I can count on. That is community (there are people here that we count on too.)
