It's really nice to see people on here, and I want to encourage you all to write about whatever is on your mind. Hopefully, we can build relationships on here and discuss a great many things such as the nature of time and the universe and life and God and music and insects and gadgets and dreams and memories and and and.....
So, I thought I'd introduce myself a tiny bit, and maybe you guys wouldn't mind introducing yourselves too?
I'm Kim. I feel way in the abstract out of my comfort zone introducing myself here. I am going to school for speech therapy, hoping to work specifically with kids with autism. My favorite book is Geek Love. One of my favorite cd's is "Wrecking Ball" by Emmylou Harris. And I'm trying to learn guitar.
That's it for intro on me.

hey- I'm Jessica- I like books, I set a goal for myself this year to read 52 books and I'm pretty much right on track. Sometimes I prefer the world of literature to the real world. So who is everyone else?

Hi Cindy! Glad you are here. Had a little look at the Underground. Wondering what age groups typically go there? There is this place in Mpls that sounds similar to what the Underground is, though not as full. Don't remember what it was called though.
WHat are your favorite music and books?

Well our goal at the UG is to be an alternative to the bar/club scene so the target age range is 16 to 25. But honestly depending on what the music is - generally determines the age range. Last night there were some bands who had older members and the range went up a bit. We hold 1200 but usually we sell out for national concerts. Local bands draw several hundred though.
What's the name of the place that is similar? Club 3 degrees?
Let's see fav music....really it depends on my mood. I honestly can listen to just about anything...(former band geek). U2 is my all time favorite band. I love Plumb, Dashboard Confessional, Project86....
And books....I am starting to really dig CS Lewis (reading the four loves currently). I like Donald Miller's books. Loved Velvet Elvis (Rob Bell) and Revolution (Barna). I tend go through reading spells.
How about you?

Hmm... can't remember the name of the place in Mpls, really. I kind of boycotted Christian music there for a while and lost touch with the place. Was real dark, had an underground feel to it.
Favorite music? Guess it depends on my mood too. I like Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Patty Larkin, EELS, Morcheeba, U2, the Trainspotting soundtrack, Indigo Girls, Ben Harper...
Books? One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia de Marquez... Geek Love by Katherine Dunn... The Fall by Albert Camus... any short story by Flannery O'Connor... Spirit and Flesh by James Ault... The Future of Freedom by Fareed Zakaria... and I love the theological dictionaries of the New Testament/ Old Testament.
Guess that's it.

I too love Flannery O'Connor stories. I have read several and as time goes by and we deal with different types of people I comment that I feel like I am in the middle of a Flannery O'Connor story. We'll have to discuss sometime.

Thanks for the info. It is nice to know that you like the "codes" I know now who to go to when I have questions about those things. Nice to get to know a little more about people each day. Thank you for participating. Hope to see you on here more often. I am wife (pastor's), a mother, three children and librarian at O'Gorman Jr. High. I really enjoy it as I love to read and learn so it is the best of all possible worlds, a room full of books at a school. I enjoy working at the church and doing ministry projects, helping people out. I hope that as we get to know each other better we can begin to see how each of our talents and abilities and interests work together. I know God brought us all together for a reason. Keep communicating
